Alpha Training opens its doors to the local business community

Thank you to all those who attended the coffee and mince pies event at our Training Academy in Poling, West Sussex. It was a great day to showcase all that Alpha, Rescue 2 and Face Fit Testing can offer to the local business community. The teams were on hand to show the attendees round the training academy and explain more about the varied programme of open training courses.

With a confined space training course taking place on site, the attendees could see the outdoor training facility being used first hand. A network of tunnels, a range of vessels and props to change the set up are all designed to simulate different scenarios such as having to rescue a casualty in a smoke-filled tunnel with debris blocking the way.

Having the confined space training unit on site was a great way to showcase the custom-built vehicle Alpha use to bring confined space training to customer sites. Did you know that hidden inside are over 40 metres of tunnelling, and that the handrails at the top of the vehicle can be dropped down to make the setting as realistic as possible?

A team of trainers offered demonstrations on first aid techniques for choking, showcasing the equipment and explaining more about the life saving skills taught in a First Aid course.

Rescue 2 had their fully equipped vans on display and explained how their experience in the emergency services has equipped them to offer a hands-on emergency and rescue service.

Members of the Face Fit testing team demonstrated what happens during a Face Fit test and why it’s so important to have correctly fitting Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE). Attendees found out that sometimes, they need to ask mask wearers to shave off their beards before they can commence the test as facial hair can impact on the effectiveness of a mask.

We also welcomed Paul Francis from Alpha’s annual charity Sussex Search and Rescue who shared more about the fantastic work they do in providing search teams for missing people. Shaun Jackaman, MD of Alpha Training Safety Solutions, was delighted to hand over a cheque of £100 to the charity which the company has decided to donate, instead of writing Christmas cards.

If you weren’t able to make this event, please do just give us a call and we’d be delighted to show you around our site at a convenient time. We can’t promise mince pies (they were all eaten), but there’s always a cup of coffee and biscuits available.
