Confined Space Training Update Spring 2022
Whether it’s new courses, new accreditations or changes to existing training suites, the world of confined space training never stands still, so we wanted to share an update with the latest changes and news.
Launch of new Competent Person (CP) courses: Alpha courses for CP1 and CP2 (for Thames Water Contractors)
We have launched our own set of courses to assist Thames Water Contractors with their specific requirements.
CP1 Thames Water
(Competent Person Level 1) A person who has successfully completed the training and assessment for working in and escaping from confined spaces and has been appointed by their line manager as being competent. CP1 can only work in confined spaces under supervision of a CP2. This will be the equivalent to Medium risk.
CP2 Thames Water
(Competent Person Level 2) A person who has successfully completed the training and been formally assessed as suitably competent for working and carrying out emergency rescues. CP1 training must have been completed and have included breathing apparatus and CP must have been appointed by their manager as being competent. This will be the equivalent of a High Risk/Rescue and Recovery level.
Launch of a NEW Alpha Training course: Confined Space Medium Risk with Entry Control
Following customer demand, we have launched our own bespoke 2 day Confined Space Medium Risk with Entry Control course which is now bookable. This course meets all necessary regulations and national occupational standards.

Launch of 6160-05 City & Guilds Award in Supervising Teams undertaking work in Confined Spaces
We are pleased to launch and run this specific for supervisors of confined spaces it includes planning and allocating activities for a team, pre-entry procedures, entry into and exit from the confined space, selection of personnel, maintaining communications, and initiating and controlling emergency procedures.

Clarification on pre-requisite for City & Guilds 6160-05, 6160-07 & 6160-08 courses
Equivalent qualifications are now accepted for the below City & Guilds Courses:
6160-05 Level 3 Award in Supervising Teams
6160-07 Level 3 Award in Direct Emergency Rescue and Recover of Casualties from Confined Spaces
6160-08 Level 3 Award in Working as a Member of a Rescue and Recovery Team in Confined Spaces
*An example of an equivalent qualification would be the 6150-03 from the legacy training suite
NEW 6160-09 City & Guilds Award in Entrant and Entry Controller for Confined Spaces (Medium Risk)
This course is for the entry controller/top person who controls entry and arrangements for medium risk confined spaces and works within them. It includes the duties of an entry controller, pre-entry procedures, preparing to work safely, using equipment and tools safely, entry into and exit from the medium risk confined space, maintaining communications, and initiating and following emergency arrangements.
