Rescue 2 - Arizona Vortex Storm Chamber Access

Rescue 2 have recently been involved with providing specialist Confined Space Entry and Rescue Cover to recover a pump from the bottom of a 35 metre deep storm chamber,  for a large Water Authority in Margate, Kent.

Main access to the chamber and egress was via a crane and person riding basket, with a second back up crane standing by in case of mechanical failure.

The three man Rescue 2 team were on site to provide technical rescue ability for any unplanned incidents or occurrences, and to generally advise on the safest entry possible.

Access to chamber was through a 1.5m x 2.5m hatch.  Use of a traditional tripod setup over the hatch would have interfered with the crane operations, so Rescue 2 used its specialist Arizona Vortex at-the-edge frame system to create a high deviation for a rope rescue. This allowed easy access to the chamber wall, without the need for the technical rescue team to have to deal with an acute angle edge transition  should the recovery of a stretcher and rescue be required.  The back up line was rigged ready to go, but kept away from the crane operations.

The ARIZONA VORTEX is one of the most versatile and state of the art artificial high directional (AHD) systems available for rescue and rope access in the industry.
