Two men die in a tragic Confined Space tanker incident

Two men have died after falling into a confined tanker space at a food waste recycling facility in Leicestershire.

The tragic events occurred before Christmas and saw the death of 19-year-old Nathan Walker as he tried to clear a blockage in a tanker at Green Feeds Ltd at Church Farm in Normanton, an inquest has heard.

Colleague, 35-year-old Gavin Rawson also died when he fell into the same tanker as he tried to rescue the teenager.

According to the Leicester Mercury, Loughborough Coroner’s Court heard details earlier this week (3 January) at the opening of the inquests, where Detective Sergeant Anna Burton, of Leicestershire Police’s complex crimes unit, said officers were called to Green Feeds Ltd at Church Farm in Normanton, near Bottesford, at 4.31pm on December 22 2016.

She said that Mr Walker had gone into the tanker to try and clear a blockage. Mr Draycott handed him a jet washer but Mr Walker fell into the tanker. Mr Rawson tried to rescue him but he too fell into the tanker.

Both men were recovered after a hole was cut in the side of the tanker.

Detective Sergeant Burton added that they were still awaiting the full results of the post-mortem examinations and that investigations were ongoing.
